Let's imagine being one of Jamie's friends!

2005-03-17 | by Jamie | Categories: Deep Thoughts

This picture is from a worksheet I used with my ichi-nensei students this week (yes, sometimes I actually do teach). The activity was for students to try to guess the names and traits of my friends and family. Amazingly, a very clever student correctly surmised from the above photo (and with no help from me) that Ewen is Scottish... and perhaps also a Jennifer.

Here are some of my favorites:

Hugh
Kate

Lisa
Ali

Jenny
Angela

Stephanie
Francois

Takeyah
Luke Elliot

Luke Winn
Eric

Gavin
Sorcha

Erica
Kat

Akiko
Liz

Nate
Marvin

Jacob
My brother Andrew

My cousin Katherine

Update: I guess I should have mentioned earlier that several of the photos used in this class exercise came from fellow Aomorians Hugh, Charlie Tyack, Luke Elliot, Kate, Takeyah and possibly others. If I didn't before give you full and proper credit I kindly ask you not to sue me. Thank You.

Great collection, Jamie. I'll have to see if it's possible to milk entertainment out of some of my junior high kids.

I got to send you my picture so that I can be in your next quiz. Students could answer nice things about me.(Your brother is 50 Hello)I'm still waiting to be fired but things are looking up I'm hoping its coming soon. Why alien invader? For reasons too complicated to explain I've already seen the new Star Wars sequel. Ken

Long time no see uncle Ken. So you've seen the new Star Wars? Well I guess abandoning the greatest country in the world (Canada) to become France's premiere English teacher/translator is finally paying off! If you're smart you'll cash in on this strange occurance and sell what you know to the drooling hordes of Star Wars geeks that are undoubtably lined up outside the movie theatres in Paris.

Having worked for large corporations for 30 years one of the things I have studied is the order of names on internal memos and other documents vis a vi what it says about the person sending the memo. I notice in your list Hugh still comes ahead of Kate. I knew I was justified in giving you that video for your birthday

Thanks dad. I can always count on you to call me gay. Actually the order was my attempt to arange them from funniest to the least funny. Ewen trumped both Kate and Hugh since his was by far the best. I forgot to add Jacob`s when I first wrote the article, so I tacked it on the end just before Andrew and Katherine who were family and were listed seperately. As you can see your accountant`s need to rank and classify things is alive and well in your offspring.

That is the sickest picture I have ever seen of myself Jamie! Why on earth would you ever print that?
2005-03-18 @ 14:07
Comment from: Jamie [Visitor]
Sorry Steph but it was the only picture I could find of you where you weren`t sitting next to one of your boyfriends. I was looking for solo pictures where people were doing something interesting that the students could pick up on. Just about everyone that got your picture deduced that since you have a camera your job must be "cameraman".

That damn photo again, will you steal some new ones off of flickr?
Your kids are as witty and creative as you ^c^ I am stealing the exercise for next term`s jikoshokai learning time! brilliant.

Why the bloody hell do people always think I`m French?? Was in Paris after New Years and had people from the south asking me for directions, do I look like a snotty Parisien?

Bloody hilarious though! Keep up the good work!

I'm glad family got a different classification as I'd hate to be known as 'the least funny by 10 year old japanese kids'. It's good to know the kids recognize I still my youthful good looks, hopefully they know that 40 is the new 30. go Ramie, go Do Your Best!

Inventive students you have there. An inventive exercise, too. But... Takeyah's favorite food is meat? Ironic.
