Last Day in Japan

2006-08-08 | by Jamie | Categories: Photos

When in Japan, Richard Gere stays at the Dandy House.

I had a couple of days to kill in Tokyo before my flight home, so I did my best to get in as much "wacky Japan" as I could before landing back in "boring Canada".

Follow up:

The Mona Lisa of Hamburgers: The Konishiki.

Umbrella vending machine.

Kate & I had dinner at the Christon Cafe, a Christianity themed restaurant in Shinjuku. They always seem to seat the gaijin customers at the same tables right at the entrance to the place. Perhaps they think it adds some autheticity to the ambiance.

In Akihabara there are lots of "Make Your Own Robot" stores.

At the train station there was a special train shaped toilet for kids and short train otaku.

Mini puroresuras.

Finally it was time to head home, so I paid over $3000 and got me a ticket for a direct flight from Tokyo to Toronto. Instead of Friends reruns and bad movies, Air Canada's personal inflight entertainment only had one show available: cushion.

hit enter before I finished the note... once I get to Japan, then You would be free to move about the globe, avoiding life, as usual...

What's up Jamie? Glad to see you made it home alright. I'm settling into the apartment in Tonami. Just wanted to say that for our prefectural night out in Tokyo during orientation, my prefecture group went to Christon Cafe as well! That kinda place would never fly in the U.S., unless there was an equivalent Jew-on and Muslim-on cafe to go along with it...I thought it was pretty nuts.

Sorry you can't make it Aunt Mary! I'm looking forward to taking you up on your R and R offer.

Anyway, I just thought I would add that is you Google the exact phrase "Air Canada Sucks" you get over 1300 results. Clearly I'm not alone in my assessment.

Speaking of sucking, for $3000 Air Canada really should be providing the sort of special services you suggested recently on your blog.

Welcome back Jamie!

R and I have a wedding in London, ON at the end of September... do you think you'll be around?

Thanks Jenny! I assume that by "have a wedding" you mean someone else's wedding and not your own. I should be around most likely. Are you thinking of coming to Toronto while you're up, or are you hoping that I'll head down to boring old London? Either way, it would nice to see both of ya again.
