Happy Chinese New Year! Let's Look at Some Photos.

02/18/07 | by Jamie | Categories: Photos

To celebrate the Chinese New Year I headed to Chinatown and had some yummy overpriced egg puffs. Kate and I first discovered this tasty reverse waffle at Ocean Park in Hong Kong a few years ago.

Follow up:

Also at the Chinese mall I found this strange Japanese Transformers toy that I suspect won't be coming to Toys R Us stores in Canada anytime soon. The real purpose of my trip to Chinatown was to track down a Japanese grocery store I heard a rumor about. Ever since returning home I've been trying to find a store that sells my favorite Japanese food: Don Tacos! I found the Japanese store, but sadly no Don Tacos. The quest continues!

I spent a little time with my cousing Leslie and my first cousing once removed (I think) Euan.

Not satisfied with just making computers freeze, Microsoft's latest product will also freeze your behind.

The Microsoft Ice House was pretty busy, but were people mostly there to see Windows Vista or the ice toilet? Maybe it was the giant penguin.

Flame on!

I think all my posts should have a photo of Hugh in a funny hat playing poker.

Last time I was in Chicago Kate and I checked out the Science and Technology Museum. I don't think Kate was too impressed by the big submarine, but I thought the new hangar they built for it looked kind of neat.

My main motivation for going was to check out the giant model train exhibit that my dad has been raving about for months. Of course as luck would have it, the whole area was closed for renovations. In fact about two thirds of the place was closed. I was not impressed, but I did manage to get close enough to the trains to take this dark and blurry photo.

We happened to be visiting the museum on the openning day of Body Worlds 2, the sequel to the creepy anatomy show by German madman Gunther von Hagens. Gunther's wife was there to take the local news crews around the various corpses placed in various undignified poses.

Best museum ever. Cooter's is a store and museum in Nashville all about the greatest TV show of all time.

If only my bedroom looked like this I would be the happiest boy in the world.

Iowa is home to the World's Biggest Truckstop and this big display of truck lights. It's pretty neat looking and all, but it doesn't really compare to Japan's awesome dekotora.

At a Salvation Army thrift shop I found this neat magazine with Ronald McDonald and Birdie playing with model trains.

Speaking of trains, this shot was taken from one of Chicago's fun to ride elevated subways.

..and here is one of them. Okay that's it for now. See you next time.

Wow, I was planning to leave a comment, but by the time I read through your entire post I totally forgot what I was going to say. It was probably something incredibly witty or else wonderfully full of incite, but the thought is lost forever now. Anyway, I'm glad to see that you are still alive and posting Weird Al music videos. Say hi to Chinatown for me. I really miss it.

Hey Luke! Glad you dropped by. 707? That's what you wanted to say? Is that some mysterious code that I need to decipher? Perhaps an interesting address in Chinatown. Well anyway, if you miss Chinatown may I recommend visiting Hong Kong next time you get the chance. It's actually much more impressive than our little community on Spadina.

That's odd. What I typed in my P.S. was something quite different from "707." However, now that I know that my former sentence can be, in the mysteries of cyberspace, be represented by the number "707" I will probably be spending the rest of my day immersed in cryptanalysis and number theory. To get us started on the deeper truth of my original banal comment: "I still haven't managed to see any bears yet," here are the first fruits of my research:
707 = 7 × 101;
sum of five consecutive primes (131 + 137 + 139 + 149 + 151)

Luke, I have a hunch that perhaps finding the mythical forest bears of Aomori may just be the key to unlocking the mysteries of the universe. Keep Operation Bear Watch alive my friend! The future of mankind may depend on it.

Mehan, glad you're still dropping by my little corner of the interweb. I've been to chi-town twice now and it's a grand old place. It's a lot like Toronto in many ways but its superior transit system makes me envious.
