I often get interesting emails from fans of this site (yes apparently I have fans). I decided to share with you one from a Japanese guy named Katsunori, who sent me information on lots of interesting places around Aomori that other fans of the site might like to check out.

Here is yet another new free excitement for avoiding life.

Free World Heritage: Shirakami Mountain range presentation on IMAX at Shirakami Sanchi Visitor Center in Nishimeya-Mura where is 40min drive from Hirosaki. Location.

This is huge complex for the small Murah. The exhibition is nice though spent billion of our tax. They have only a program to play on IMAX about great nature of Shirakami in each season in Japanese but you can understand it. It's obviously very low budget program - shot in short time and poor surround sound recordings (though good EV speaker system). A good thing is they can still afford to new print so, no Taifuu rain on the film yet. Playing times are 10:00 11:20 13:00 14:10 15:20

Shirakami Sanchi Visitor Center: 61-1 Kanda Oaza Tashiro Aza Kanda Nishimeya-mura, Nakatsugaru-gun Aomori, Japan 036-1141 Phone: 0172-85-2810 FAX 0172-85-2833 Closed on Monday (Closed on next day if Mon. is National holiday)

It's worth watch it and may be try nice drive to scenic Shirakami line (Prefectural roads 28, was known Kosai Rindo logging road) to Iwasaki Mura after that. This road run in wild forest nice but some times you meet tour mini bus on 4m wide road you must back up to passing space and let them go. Also some part is still dirt (guess), it is improving to meet Prefectural scenic roads though.

Location.

Prefectural roads 317 cross south mountain range to Fujisato Mura in Akita via Tsurube Otoshi Toge pass this is also dirt road. Location.

Also there is one more you can cross the mountain range to Tashiro cho in Akita from Prefectural roads 317 in Soma mura via Tashiro Soma Rindo logging road. This is very dark not scenic but you will surprise to Japanese rocket testing facility gate just after the summit. Just like a Japanese X-file location spot.

How did I know all these back roads you may ask -- I was dirt motorcycle nerd so these area was dirt bikers paradise. I am looking forward to see next your adventure a picture of bear is kissing your cam!

-Katsunori

Thanks Katsunori. While it would be cool to see some bears, I hope they don't kiss my cam. Only I am allowed to do that. Doesn't really matter since I don't have a dirt bike. I already visited Shirakami one time with Hugh and the gang, but only the boring on foot way. If there are any other motorcycle nerds that read this site, then I hope you found this helpful.

JamieThe movie is actually about Zombies not aliens, and yes it is terrible (from what I've seen of the previews, reviews and from seeing the first movie in the series). I don't believe there is a movie bad enough for Roddy Piper to refuse a roll however. Say hi to Big Al for me. I hope he gets the chance to enjoy the experience of driving with both you and Annie in the same car together. Since the Tour de France is over, that will undoubtably be the trip highlight for him.
