I heard you might be moving into the back basment apartment. Good choice. Here’s a lovely pic of Mr. Avoidinglife’s future diggs….
The apartment in that pic actually looks a lot nicer than I remember the basement apartment looking.
If you’re wondering where the comic went, I felt it was a bit too negative and harsh. I might repost it later, or do something else instead. I just don’t want people to get the impression that I hate Japan, which is far from the truth.
Okay, was wondering about that (the comic). It was definitely pushing the bounds there. Was worried for a bit that you got contacted by the Powers That Be and were formally requested to remove it. Heh.
I think it is really funny and definitely appreciate it for what it is, though it’s very much a context-sensitive thing. The Aomori Yearbook sounds like a good place for it; not sure if the whole rest of the world would “get it” though.
In the comic I kind of portrayed myself as a jerk who doesn’t care about Japan. Anyone who knows me knows that in real life that isn’t the case, but there are lots of people who read this site that don’t know me at all. Plus there are lots of Japanese people who only superficially know me that read it too, and I’m worried that they would get the wrong idea about me.
Your new basement apartment is a thing of great beauty and large vistas. That is a picture of one of the houses Andrew lived in at McMaster after he and his friends had cleaned it up.
hi jamie! love the site! maybe this is deja-vu, i may have visited it a long time ago(-_-;). this time stumbled across it looking for insights into japanese pop-culture. well this site is definitely the place to be (^_^)…btw, went to highschool with you and your brother! give him a kick in the pants from me if you get the chance. anyway, if ever in the kansai region, contact me. i’m working here now and may very well never leave. have fun avaoidinglife in the hood back in the big city - toronto that is.
Hey Brendan! Wow, haven’t heard anything from you in a long long time. I’m really surprised that you’re in Japan. It seems like everyone is gonig to Japan these days. Maybe I should post on here some of the movies you made with my brother and I back in high school. ;)
