McDonald's is Healthier than Japanese Food

02/14/05 | by Jamie | Categories: Deep Thoughts, McDonald's

I'm sure you've all heard the propaganda a million times about how healthy Japanese food is. I figured it must be true since Japanese people live so damn long, but after living here for a while I've come to realize just how unhealthy a great deal of Japanese food really is. Perhaps on average Japanese people eat less fatty food, but that doesn't mean Japanese food isn't fatty. Just see for yourself at how typical Japanese food compares to food from McDonald's:

Okay, so maybe this is a bit of McPropaganda as well, but I bet the numbers aren't far from the truth.

Hmmm. Calories don't tell you anything about how much fat is in your food. They don't really have much to do with nutritional value either.

But McD's tastes good anyhow and this chart makes me want to eat everything on it.

Luke (biffa)That's right, and also the chart doesn't tell you what you're not getting by eating MacDonalds all the time.

BradKeep in mind fat is not the devil, as we have been taught to believe. Saturated fats, such as beef fat, are bad, but most fats are not.

Take for example - fish oil or olive oil. Both are purely fats, but they're not just good for you, they're ESSENTIAL. Ever heard of essential fatty acids?

I dont know what most of those things were in those pictures, but based on what I know of japanse foods they were likely fish based. So then if they're high in fat, they're high in fish fats. Which we just determined were good for you.

I make sure to eat herring every day, because its high in EFAs, I also take flax seed oil and cod liver oil capsules daily too.

McDonald's is bad for you not because its high in fats, but becausee its high in SATURATED fats. Anything you get there is either deep fried in saturated fats, or is a hamburg, which is high in saturated fats anyways.

Now carbs... those are bad... Did you know when you deep fry a potatoe, the starch in it is broken down into its most simple form (sucrose). So when you eat a french fry, you're basically eatting deep fried pixie sticks. Mmmm...

JAY IN JAPANFACT1: After 15 minutes, an uneaten hamburger will be almost like a plastic hamburger. FACT2: After 15 minutes, an uneaten onigiri will still be delicious looking. VERDICT: Imagine what a hamburger will be like in your stomach 15 minutes after eating it? Gee...? Thats not a hard question to answer. WHY: When I was a highschool student I worked at McD'S for a year. I saw what the food looked like after 15 minutes of not selling it and its not pretty. FINAL: The majority of Japanese foods which are high in fat and unhealthy calories are foods which the Japanese people have adapted from america and many other western and asian countries and then imitated. But the majority of traditional Japanese foods are very healthy (much healthier than McD's). The same situation exists in America where American owned-Japanese restaurants sell sushi and other foods with mayonaise and ketchup on them. If you were to put mayonaise on sushi in a japanese restaurant they would think your just another crazy foreignor. Would you put soysauce on your hotdog or wasabi on your frenchfries...? I doubt it. CONCLUSION: Try eating only McD's for one whole day, then try eating only traditional japanese food for one whole day with one day break in between. Im sure youll feel better after eating the traditional japanese food. The reason I know this is because Ive been in Japan for 5 years and have had the craving for McD'd many times, and many times given in and bought my favorite chicken nuggets, fish burger and a milkshake. Only to wake up the next day to have a crook gut, new pimple, and a somewhat greasy feeling throughout my body. SUGGESTION: The same as I recommend to many japanese people to visit western countries and try living in a new culture and trying the food and so on, I would recommend to many western and asian people to try living in Japan and see how you like eating their food everyday. You may be pleasantly surprised, and may feel healthier.

JamieJay that's quite the speech. Maybe you could use a nice McShake to help you relax. I'm not against eating all types of Japanese food. I think Don Tacos are great!
