Otaku Train Madness

Hentai Anime JR cards achieve a nerdiness trifecta

Ever since I was a kid I always liked trains. Every Sunday after church I'd head over to my grandparents house and play with the big model train set that my grandfather had in the basement. My dad also had a rather meager train set of his own and also shares my grandfather's fondness for trains. For some reason though my brother never developed any interest in trains (thus adding more evidence to my theory that he must be adopted). I don't know what it is about trains that sparks this flame in the brains of so many men. Walt Disney was one such person, and he was able to turn his train obessesions into great things during his lifetime. While trains are certainly popular among men everywhere in the world, I don't think there is another place that has a bigger hard on for trains than Japan.

Typical Shinkansen product sold in any departo

Just about every town in Japan (with the exception of some remote places like Shimokita or Rokkasho) is connected by train, and Shinkansen bullet trains can get you from anywhere on Honshu to Tokyo in just a few hours. There really isn't much need for Shinkansen trains way out here in remote Aomori, but that doesn't stop government officials all over Japan from spending trillions of yen to realize their otaku train ambitions. This love of trains is evident everywhere you go in Japan. If you visit any toy store, you'll find almost as much plush dedicated to Shinkansen toys as to "Kitty-chan" or "Pooh-san".

Scene from Densha De Go Final!

I thought I had long since kicked the train habit, but after a year and a half living under this train obsessed society I finally cracked and bought this game. While most people would probably find a train driving game incredibly boring and pointless, I can't seem to stop playing! I don't know what it is about the damn thing, but it's like crack cocaine to me. I sit at work watching the clock, counting down the minutes until I can go home and play the train game some more. I need help!

Update: You can download playable demos of several games in the Densha De Go! series including "Final" from this website. Keep in mind that you will probably need a pretty fast computer with a good graphics card for them to work. As far as getting the full versions of these games, the only place I know where to buy them is here in Japan. Maybe you'll get lucky and find them on P2P networks, but I doubt it.

Densha De Go Final! probably won't work, but version 2 or the original one might be okay. When I tried downloading it something went wrong, so maybe you might have problems. Have fun!
