Remembering Winter '05

06/06/05 | by Jamie | Categories: Videos

This is the time of year when we get our first taste of the summer heat, and it becomes easy to forget what it was like in Aomori just a few short months ago. This past winter Aomori saw one of the heaviest snowfalls in recent history, or in the case of Hirosaki, all its history. For some this ment a great ski season, but unless you're a hardcore powder junkie (you know who you are) this ment a traumatic experience that will stay with you the rest of your life. This is also the time of year when incoming JETs first learn of their placements, and through the help of Google first come across this website. Well newbie JETs, I dedicate this video to you.

Here here for a little taste of what's to come!

TheoI had no idea anywhere in Japan besides Hokkaidou got so much snow. In the 6 years I was in Kyoto, we didn't get much at all except for one year, and it wasn't close to your 2004 snowfall.

Great new picture by the way, except you might just confuse those Xzibit fans even more. Could you explain to me how in hell they get you mistaken for him? Or how they come across your website?

JamieI get mistaken for Xzibit all the time. It's understandable why they'd be so confused.

jenny chanholy crap. I clearly made the right decision about leaving before last winter. Between that snow and no Indian food in Hiro anymore I would have been a basket case.

Glad you're still listening to some of the music I sent you :)

JamieActually you sent me a different Yeah Yeah Yeah's song. This one was off of Kate's iPod. I chose it because it is used prominently in an episode of 'Pimp My Ride' I sometimes use to teach English with. In that episode Xzibit pimps out a Daihatsu HiJet Kei-car.

Jacobgreat video Jamie. It's hard to believe the two years were so different. I never thought I'd be sick of shoveling snow...but this year...yeah.

KathrynUsually no snow in Hachinohe! Yay!!! Sooooo happy! Got so bloody tired of the snow - digging snow took the piss last winter! No car to dig out but had to dig way into/out of apartment every day - 2nd storey with no roof over the steps. Which bright spark thought of that?!

JamieCome now.. I've been to Quebec in the wintertime and I've never seen snow like we have here in Aomori anywhere in Canada.

NicCool video Jamie, though just as well I have fast broadband.

My wife felt all natsukashii. Said it reminded her of Niigata-ken.

It looks bad up there. But where I lived, I have been assured that (for it’s latitude - the same as Madrid's if you can believe that) it’s the snowiest place on earth!

FrancoisWe don't have as much snow as in Hakkoda, but more than in Aomori-city, yeah! with a -25.
